Aston Villa striker Morgan Rogers believes that Thomas Tuchel’s unique “aura” can galvanise England’s quest for World Cup victory.
Tuchel convened with his squad for the first time on Monday, as they prepare for their opening World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.
The German coach, who began his tenure as Gareth Southgate’s successor in January, led a team briefing on Monday evening, outlining his ambitions for World Cup success next year.
Rogers, who is currently under the guidance of Unai Emery at Villa, remarked that he has never encountered a manager with such a compelling presence.
“Upon meeting him, his aura and demeanour were difficult to articulate; he commands a level of confidence and respect that is apparent,” said Rogers, whose side kicks off the qualifying campaign against Albania on Friday.
“His presence is notably different. Various managers possess unique styles, but his aura is something I’ve not experienced before. It’s a contrast to what I’ve faced in the past.”
“You can just observe his conduct; he remains calm and composed. Yet, as soon as it’s time to put in the effort, he expects everyone to be fully engaged.”
England has endured a drought of silverware since the 1966 World Cup, having suffered defeat in the last two European Championship finals under Southgate.
As England’s third non-British manager, Tuchel faces added pressure to deliver results.
Nonetheless, Rogers is confident that the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach, who lifted the Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge, is well-equipped to meet those expectations.
“The only objective is to win the World Cup. He was very direct and transparent about his intentions, his approach, how he envisions us performing, and the areas we need to enhance,” he explained.
“It was straightforward, with no beating around the bush. That’s his style – being direct is the most effective way to convey information.”
