AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan spent the night in hospital after being stretchered off following a collision with his teammate Alex Jimenez during the second half of their 4-0 victory over Udinese on Friday.
The club confirmed that Maignan will return to Milan on Saturday after undergoing observation in hospital.
Milan were leading 2-0 in their Serie A clash when Maignan exited his area and collided heads with Jimenez in an attempt to intercept the ball in the 51st minute, which left him momentarily unconscious.
Jimenez also suffered a significant head impact but continued to play until he was substituted approximately 18 minutes later.
“Thankfully, Mike is okay. We all inquired with the doctor about his condition, and he reassured us that while he’s in hospital for tests, he’s doing well. He’s an exceptional captain,” Milan defender Matteo Gabbia remarked to reporters following the match.
