In a significant milestone, English Premier League frontrunners Liverpool will be making their debut in Japan later this year, clashing with Yokohama F-Marinos in a pre-season friendly, as announced by the J. League on Thursday.
The Reds are set to kick off a tour through Asia in July, which will also see them visit Hong Kong.
Yokohama, which is led by Steve Holland, the former assistant to Gareth Southgate for the England national team, finished as runners-up in the last season’s AFC Champions League under the management of ex-Liverpool player Harry Kewell.
Notably, past coaches for Yokohama include Tottenham Hotspur’s current manager, Ange Postecoglou.
This highly anticipated match is scheduled for July 30th at Yokohama’s Nissan Stadium, a venue that boasts a capacity of over 70,000 and was the site of the 2002 World Cup final.
Prior to this encounter, Liverpool will take on AC Milan on July 26th in the inaugural football match at Hong Kong’s newly constructed Kai Tak Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000.
The new season of the Premier League is slated to commence on August 16th.
