Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has voiced his frustration regarding being compelled to compete against Osasuna in a LaLiga match on Thursday, a rescheduled fixture that both clubs had requested to be postponed.
Hansi Flick’s side secured a 3-0 victory, extending their lead at the top of the table to three points. However, Kounde condemned the decision to hold the match on this date, calling it disrespectful to the clubs and players involved.
Barcelona and Osasuna had both lodged appeals to avoid playing the fixture on Thursday, following its initial postponement on March 8 due to the passing of a doctor associated with the Catalan club, but their appeals were disregarded.
“I’m frustrated about the timing of the game; it doesn’t seem right,” Kounde told DAZN.
“I understand some people might struggle to grasp this, and we are fortunate to work in this field… but I believe it shows a lack of respect for the clubs to schedule the match on this date.”
“It’s not only Barcelona; Osasuna also has international players who need adequate rest.”
Kounde recently played 120 minutes for France during the Nations League match against Croatia, in which Osasuna’s Ante Budimir also participated.
“Whether it’s Barcelona, Osasuna, or Real Madrid, it’s not just a disrespect towards the clubs but also disrespectful to the players,” added the French defender.
“They need to realise we aren’t machines, and to deliver our best performance for the fans, sufficient rest is essential.”
“I believe all institutions, not just LaLiga, need to recognise this.”
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick also expressed his dissatisfaction after midfielder Dani Olmo sustained an injury during the match.
“As I mentioned earlier, the timing of this match isn’t appropriate, especially following an international break—I don’t think it’s wise,” Flick told reporters.
“We gained three points, but we’ve paid a hefty price with Dani’s injury.
“It’s concerning, and we’re uncertain about how long he’ll be sidelined.”
