Jobe Bellingham of Sunderland has successfully completed a permanent transfer to Borussia Dortmund, the clubs announced on Tuesday. The young English midfielder follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude, by joining the Bundesliga outfit.
While the newly-promoted Premier League club did not disclose financial specifics, British media reports suggest that Dortmund will pay an initial fee of €33 million for Jobe, who is set to feature in this month’s Club World Cup.

Sunderland confirmed that this transfer marks a club-record fee and includes a sell-on clause. Dortmund revealed that the England Under-21 international has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
If the reported fee holds true, it would make the 19-year-old Jobe the second-most expensive signing in Dortmund’s history, trailing only Ousmane Dembélé, who was bought for €35 million in 2016.
After a two-year stint at Sunderland, which saw the club finish fourth in the second-tier Championship and secure promotion to the Premier League via a playoff final victory against Sheffield United, Jobe bids farewell.
“It’s time for me to say goodbye to all the loyal supporters of Sunderland, who have been instrumental during my two incredible years in red and white,” Jobe expressed.
“Your unwavering support has often amazed me, particularly during challenging times when we persevered together.”
In another statement, he remarked: “I’m thrilled to become a Borussia Dortmund player and to compete for titles alongside this illustrious club… I’m also excited to don the black and yellow jersey at the FIFA Club World Cup.”
Jude Bellingham represented Dortmund for three seasons before making a €103 million move to Real Madrid, where the England international celebrated winning both LaLiga and the Champions League in his debut season.
