While they may not be the youngest halves combination in the league, Michael Maguire has unwavering confidence in Adam Reynolds and Ben Hunt.
With an impressive total of 621 NRL appearances between them and a combined age of 68, Hunt and Reynolds will form the oldest halves pairing since Des Hasler and Cliff Lyons in 1996.
The pair are set to take charge of playmaking duties for the Broncos in the initial months while Ezra Mam serves a nine-match suspension.
Despite having just over a month to develop their partnership due to Reynolds’ rehabilitation from injury, their impressive synergy has certainly caught Maguire’s attention.
“They’ve been performing exceptionally well,” Maguire shared with Nine’s Today.

“Clearly, Reynolds was sidelined for a while during the pre-season, so their collaboration really only solidified in the last month upon his return… but you could see their experience making an impact right away.
“They jumped right in and it was evident they were guiding the team dynamically.
“The more they train together, the stronger their partnership will become.”
Hunt, who previously captained the Dragons for four seasons, will now join Reynolds in the senior leadership ranks for the Broncos.

Maguire remarked that Hunt’s synergy with Reynolds in a leadership role will greatly benefit the team, equating it to “having two coaches on the field.”
“With their wealth of experience… they’re able to lead our strategies effectively, which is incredibly encouraging,” he stated.

Maguire also supported Reynolds’ call for everyone to “keep a lid” on the pre-season excitement surrounding the team.
“Coaching this group has truly been enjoyable,” noted the former NSW coach.
“The players have put in the hard yards, just as everyone else has. That’s what pre-season is all about.
“It’s essential to be ready for what lies ahead, and we’re on the brink of a marathon season.
“I believe the players have bonded closely, and their connections are robust.
“We’re eager to go out and showcase what we’ve developed.”
The Broncos will commence their season on Thursday against the Roosters at Allianz Stadium.
