Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola (42) addressed the media in his latest press conference, looking ahead to the match against Brighton on Tuesday night.
A victory for the Cherries could see them rise to third in the Premier League, surpassing teams like Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
However, facing Brighton will prove challenging, especially after their current three-match winning streak under manager Fabian Hurzeler, which notably includes two remarkable victories over Chelsea.
Iraola provided an update on his squad, indicating that they are scheduled to train later today, which should offer more clarity on player fitness.
“I don’t know. We will train this evening and assess how the players have recovered. Yesterday was a recovery day, so we will observe today’s training to determine availability. At this moment, I’m unsure.”
Defender Ilya Zabarnyi was shown a red card during the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, marking a significant blow for Bournemouth, who have been robust defensively this season. Iraola discussed potential replacements for him this week.
“We’ll evaluate (who will step in) as we still have an appeal in process. We’ll find out if he can feature tomorrow; at this point, I’m not certain. The decision will be made in a few hours.”
“These situations happen to every team, be it due to injury or suspension, and we must adapt accordingly. Everyone has demonstrated their ability to rise to the occasion. There are no excuses. I will endeavour to make the right decision.”
The Bournemouth head coach was also asked about Liverpool’s corner routine that led to their opening goal against Manchester City and whether he believes it bears similarities to their own from earlier in the season.
“I noticed their corner routine, but it’s certainly not something we came up with. I won’t take any credit for that, no.”
