The Houston Dynamo have announced that they will provide their fans with a complimentary ticket for a future home game following Lionel Messi’s decision not to join the Inter Miami squad for Sunday’s Major League Soccer fixture.
Messi’s absence from the field has previously prompted the hosts to offer refunds to spectators. Notably, match organisers in Hong Kong issued a 50% ticket refund last year when the Argentine superstar was unable to play due to injury.
In August, Chicago Fire assured fans that match tickets and season passes would be credited if Messi, who was injured at the time, was unable to feature in their home game against Miami.
“The latest player status report for the match did not list forward Lionel Messi, and it’s been reported he did not travel to Houston. Unfortunately, we cannot control who plays for our opponents,” the Dynamo stated on X on Saturday.
“Supporters attending tomorrow night’s match will be able to claim a free ticket to a future Dynamo game this season. Further details will be shared early next week.”
Messi played in this week’s Champions Cup match against Sporting Kansas City, netting the opener in Miami’s 3-1 victory.
The 37-year-old was recently fined an undisclosed amount by MLS for physically confronting a member of New York City FC’s coaching staff after their 2-2 draw earlier this month.
