Inter Milan’s manager, Simone Inzaghi, admitted that his players were feeling the pressure as they appeared jittery towards the conclusion of their 2-1 victory at home against Udinese in Serie A on Sunday, with goalkeeper Yann Sommer playing a pivotal role in securing the win.
The Nerazzurri established a comfortable 2-0 advantage thanks to goals from Marko Arnautovic and Davide Frattesi, but they had to count on Sommer to preserve the three points in the latter stages of the match.
“The lads produced a fantastic first half where we deserved more than just a two-goal lead. In the second half, we hadn’t conceded much before (Udinese defender Oumar) Solet’s goal,” Inzaghi told DAZN.
“After that, we lost our clarity against a side like Udinese, which has always been capable of surprising us.”
The Inter coach saw red in stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card, having lost his composure and made animated gestures towards the referee as he stepped onto the pitch.
“I made an error at the end, and I’ve apologised to the referee,” Inzaghi stated.
“To me, the foul on (Joaquin) Correa was evident, followed by the corner kick where Solet almost found the net.
“At times, adrenaline can play tricks on you; regrettably, I won’t be on the bench for our next match.”
Inzaghi received his first booking shortly after the break for protesting when Inter striker Marcus Thuram was fouled just outside the box.

Inzaghi will miss Inter’s match against Parma on Saturday, and the team will be without several key players for their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against AC Milan on Wednesday.
“At this moment, we are facing difficulties. Of our five substitutions, four were forced,” Inzaghi commented.
“Arnautovic and Frattesi both picked up knocks and had to come off, while (Federico) Dimarco and (Matteo) Darmian had just returned from injury. We’ll also be without (Kristjan) Asllani due to suspension on Wednesday.”
“It would have been the fourth match played in full by (Hakan) Calhanoglu, so I decided to substitute him.”
Inzaghi further mentioned that forwards Mehdi Taremi and Lautaro Martinez, along with defender Denzel Dumfries, will not be available for the clash against Milan.
“We’ll continue on, hoping they can contribute down the track as we will certainly need them as we advance in the competitions. The Club World Cup is going to be vital for us,” the coach concluded.
