Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo has announced the appointment of Bas Sibum as the new head coach, succeeding Erwin van de Looi.
The 53-year-old Van de Looi will bid farewell to Heracles at the end of the current season, as confirmed in early March. He took the helm of the team in December 2023 and guided them to a 14th-place finish in the 2023-24 campaign.
Bas Sibum, aged 42, will take over from Van de Looi once the 2024-25 season concludes. Sibum began his managerial career in 2023 with Roda JC, a club where he made 20 appearances as a player.
In 2024, he came close to securing promotion for Roda to the Eredivisie, but the team suffered a late-season collapse and missed out after a defeat to FC Groningen on the final matchday. Following the 2023-24 season, Sibum was honoured with the title of ‘Manager of the Year’ in the Dutch second division. Currently, Roda JC sits in tenth place in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, trailing by five points from the playoff positions.
Sibum had a brief playing stint at Heracles Almelo, featuring in eight matches between 2014 and 2016.
