Harry Kane remarked on Saturday that the new England manager, Thomas Tuchel, has already taken “promising steps both on and off the pitch,” which he believes could contribute to the Three Lions’ success at the 2026 World Cup.
After Bayern Munich’s 3-2 victory over St. Pauli in the Bundesliga, Kane, who captains the England squad, expressed that his inaugural international break with Tuchel had been “really positive.”
“There’s plenty of work ahead, but we’ve made some solid progress both on and off the pitch, which should hopefully help us secure the World Cup,” he stated.
Kane, who played under Tuchel at Bayern last season, expressed his happiness at reuniting with his former coach within the national team setup.
“I had a great rapport with him here, and I was really looking forward to collaborating with him again,” he mentioned.
The Bayern striker also came to Tuchel’s defence after facing criticism in England for his candid assessment of the team’s performances at Euro 2024 under previous manager Gareth Southgate.
“It might have been misconstrued. There were instances during the tournament when we didn’t appear to be ourselves, and that’s likely what he was referring to,” Kane noted.
“Thomas will have aspects he wants to modify and things he intends to maintain.
“We’ve been fostering a positive environment with England for quite some time now. In the last camp, we noticed some initial changes that we hope will help propel us to success in the World Cup.”
