Girona’s head coach Michel will be absent for Saturday’s LaLiga fixture against Villarreal due to a health issue that has necessitated his hospitalisation, the club announced on Friday.
The 49-year-old tactician, who has been at the helm since 2021, led Girona to their first-ever Champions League qualification after the team sat atop LaLiga for much of the 2023-24 season.
“Girona FC coach Michel Sanchez has been admitted to hospital due to a health concern. He is currently under medical observation as a precautionary measure and is making positive strides,” the club stated.
“He is receiving the necessary care, and we anticipate his recovery in the coming days. Unfortunately, he will not be able to supervise the team from the sidelines during tomorrow’s match.”
In a post on social media, Michel expressed his eagerness to return to work.
“I won’t be on the bench this Saturday… I need to take a few days to recuperate and will aim to come back as soon as possible,” he shared.
“I feel good… I’m confident that this team, despite my absence, will give everything they have.”
As they approach the final four matches of the season, Girona currently sits six points clear of the relegation zone in 15th place.
