The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that national team director Rudi Völler will continue in his position until the Euro 2028, following the signing of a contract extension on Wednesday.
A former World Cup champion as a player and a coach of the national side from 2000 to 2004, Völler stepped into his current role in 2023 and briefly served as interim manager for a match after Hansi Flick’s departure in September of that year.
He will work alongside coach Julian Nagelsmann, who also extended his contract until 2028 in January.
“I am eager to keep progressing on the journey we’ve begun with Julian and his team as we head towards the next Euro, aiming for a return to sporting success and winning back the hearts of fans in Germany,” Völler expressed in a statement.
“We have already seen significant improvement, but we are not yet where we aspire to be.”
Germany reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, hosted on home soil, marking their first strong tournament performance in ten years.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, while England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales are set to co-host the 2028 European Championship.
