Georgia secured their status in League B of the UEFA Nations League (UNL) in emphatic fashion, obliterating Armenia 6-1 (9-1 on aggregate) as new manager John van ‘t Schip commenced his tenure with back-to-back heavy defeats.
With Armenia already facing a 3-0 deficit from the first leg, their chances of a resurgence were minimal, and the match quickly became an exercise in limiting further damage, given the hosts’ sharp finishing.
It took Georgia just four minutes to get on the scoresheet, with Giorgi Tsitaishvili’s cross perfectly finding Otar Kiteishvili, whose shot deflected off Varazdat Haroyan and hit the post before finding the net.
Georges Mikautadze extended their lead ten minutes later, slotting the ball calmly into the bottom corner, before Giorgi Chakvetadze added the third with another superb finish in the 23rd minute.
The beleaguered Armenian defence began to crumble as the half progressed, and it was further punished when they carelessly lost possession to Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose well-placed pass was emphatically converted by Kiteishvili.
The goals continued to flow, with Mikautadze making it five just 35 minutes in, capitalising on a poor backpass and skilfully lifting the ball over Ognjen Cancarevic from 25 yards.
Clearly dissatisfied with the situation, Van ‘t Schip made three substitutions before the half-time whistle, a decision that bore fruit immediately after the break when Edgar Sevikyan netted with a close-range overhead kick.
However, any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Kvaratskhelia added to the scoreline, finishing off after a delightful no-look through ball from Anzor Mekvabishvili.

This final goal marked the end of scoring, confirming that Georgia has never been relegated from the UNL and will remain in League B. In contrast, Van ‘t Schip faces the challenging task of transforming an Armenian side that has now gone 29 matches without a clean sheet, keeping them in League C.
