A heated altercation erupted in the second quarter of an NBA clash between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Detroit Pistons, resulting in five players and two coaches being ejected from the game.
During this second meeting of the season, the Pistons lost head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, along with centre Isaiah Stewart, forward Ron Holland II, and guard Marcus Sasser.
From the Timberwolves, forward Naz Reid and guard Dante DiVincenzo were also dismissed, as was assistant coach Pablo Prigioni.
The confrontation ignited with eight and a half minutes remaining in the second quarter, while the Pistons held a 39-30 advantage.
Stewart had just received a technical foul moments before for a hard bump on DiVincenzo after the whistle. Shortly after, Holland was penalised for slapping the ball out of Reid’s hands near the baseline.
The two players exchanged heated words, prompting DiVincenzo to step in and grab Holland’s jersey. This quickly escalated into a chaotic brawl involving all ten players on the court, as well as multiple coaches and trainers.
As attempts were made to separate the players, Bickerstaff and Prigioni were seen shouting at each other, requiring intervention from team staff and security.

Supporters were also caught up in the melee, which spilled over into the courtside seats, all occurring just 20 feet away from new Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was observed moving from his courtside position in the following moments, seemingly calling for help for a fan who had been inadvertently involved in the fracas.
On social media, many fans expressed a desire for more intensity in the league, with one user on Reddit stating, “Not wishing harm on anyone, but we need more of this fire and passion in the game.”
While any penalties for the incident remain to be announced, it is highly likely that fines or suspensions will follow, placing both teams at a disadvantage for the remainder of the regular season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons are currently positioned fifth, while the Timberwolves sit seventh in the West, just half a game behind the Golden State Warriors for the sixth seed.
