League Immortal Andrew Johns opines that Luke Brooks should not revert to a halfback role, even with the impending exit of Daly Cherry-Evans.
Pre-season reports hinted that Manly was contemplating moving Brooks back to the No. 7, with Tom Trbojevic shifting to five-eighth and Lehi Hopoate taking over at fullback.
Following Cherry-Evans’ announcement regarding his departure, it has come to light that Manly is also considering Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty.
Johns described Fogarty as “a solid acquisition” for the Sea Eagles while advising against moving Brooks back to a position that drew heavy criticism during his time at the Tigers.

“I don’t want to see Luke Brooks return to the playmaking position at halfback,” he expressed on Wide World of Sports’ Immortal Behaviour.
“There’s a lot of hype around a young player named Joey Walsh, but he’s only (18) … he still needs two or three more years to secure that position.”
As speculation about Fogarty’s future intensifies, Johns’ comments regarding State of Origin could potentially elevate his value.

The former Blues halfback believes Fogarty is not far from securing his spot in the Maroons’ playmaking line-up.
“He’s a very good player, steady and capable of directing his team well,” he stated.
“He manages the game effectively. If Daly were to be sidelined, the three players vying for the Origin halfback role, aside from (Tom) Dearden, would be Jamal Fogarty, Braydon Trindall, and Sam (Walker).
“Since Sam Walker is not currently available, you’re really looking at those two.”
