Diogo Dalot is confident that Manchester United are “on the right path” despite enduring their 13th defeat in a disappointing Premier League season, this time at the hands of Nottingham Forest.
The side managed by Ruben Amorim controlled the game at the City Ground on Tuesday, but the third-placed hosts secured a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a spectacular individual effort from academy graduate Anthony Elanga.
Currently, United sit in a dismal 13th place in the league standings with only eight matches remaining.
They are on the brink of matching their record for the highest number of Premier League defeats in a single season, a record set under Erik ten Hag during the 2023/24 campaign.
Despite United registering 23 attempts on goal against Forest without success, defender Dalot remains optimistic as the team adjusts to Amorim’s methods.
“(Our fighting spirit) demonstrates how eager we are to change our circumstances, particularly in the Premier League,” he shared with MUTV.
“If we want to compete effectively in the future, we need to adopt this mindset and perform accordingly.”
He continued: “I believe that if we do this, then the results will eventually follow, but we need to take these initial steps if we aspire to contend for the Premier League and other major titles.”
Dalot added: “We still have some challenges ahead, but in terms of making progress and finding our way out of this situation, I feel we are moving in the right direction.”
United’s next challenge is against Manchester City at home on Sunday, followed by the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final matchup with Lyon in France next week.
