Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has announced a significant attacking lift ahead of tomorrow evening’s showdown with Tottenham.
This morning, Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Nicolas Jackson are all fit and available for selection against Spurs.
He remarked: “Cole is back and feeling good. Noni is improving. Nico is also doing well. They’re all in good shape.”
“We’ve emphasised before that it’s crucial to have players available; when they’re absent, it certainly affects your performance. We’ve faced that challenge this season. Now, it’s fantastic to have all of them back.”
“From day one, they’ve shown tremendous commitment. Their attitude has been exemplary every day, especially in the past week as they understand the stakes moving forward. Every match is crucial now, with just nine games remaining, and we aim to finish strongly.”
“Regardless of who takes the field, we want to be direct and swift when faced with high pressing. That becomes difficult when opponents sit deep. Our last three home games have seen teams defending in numbers. With players who thrive on making runs behind the defence, it becomes easier to attack.”
Maresca also praised Reece James for his successful comeback from a long-term injury, with the Blues captain now excelling both at club level and for his country, having demonstrated his fitness.
A thrilled Maresca stated: “Reece is still very young. At 25 or 26, he’s in a prime age, even if it seems he’s one of the more ‘experienced’ players in our squad.”
“We still need to be cautious with Reece. As you’re aware of his injury history, it’s vital to manage his fitness carefully at this point. Our goal is to keep him fit until the end of the season, and we’ll handle him with that in mind as we look to the future.”
In response to a question regarding last week’s decision to cancel a scheduled day off after his non-international senior players suffered a heavy defeat to a youthful U21 squad, Maresca clarified: “It’s irrelevant. Ever since I joined the club, I have maintained high standards. Given the limited numbers of players available, cancelling a day off is sometimes necessary. Thus, we opted for training instead.”
The Blues manager was also queried about two of his senior players. He indicated that Enzo Fernandez performed excellently for Argentina during the international break and noted a shift in the midfielder’s approach.
He explained: “Enzo, as I’ve mentioned before, has shown significant improvement in understanding the game. Initially, he faced some challenges, but now he finds himself in the right positions more often, which is why he’s contributing with goals and assists. Even with the national team, he’s been arriving in the box consistently.”
Maresca also touched upon transfer speculation regarding the potential for Chelsea to pursue permanent signing of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, currently on loan.
He added: “I have great appreciation for all the players in our squad. Right now, our focus is on finishing the season strongly rather than worrying about next season. What happens in the summer, we will assess later. I’m pleased with the players we have at the moment.”
“You likely have more insight into Jadon than I do. His situation hasn’t changed; he can certainly enhance his contributions in terms of statistics, but that’s true for the entire team. I don’t need to send Jadon any specific messages—I speak with him daily. He must continue to strive for his best. That’s what we expect from him.”
Chelsea will enter the match in fourth place against a struggling Tottenham side tomorrow night at Stamford Bridge, who sit fourteenth in the league standings.
Maresca commented: “They’ve dealt with numerous injuries to key players throughout the season, which has affected their performance. I can’t provide a deeper analysis, but injuries have played a significant role.”
“Every game is important and worth three points. We aim to win as many matches as possible, and we will see where we end up.”
