Achieving their objective, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed satisfaction after his team staged an impressive comeback from two goals down to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw on Tuesday, clinching a 5-4 aggregate victory that propels them into the Copa del Rey final.
Ancelotti dismissed inquiries regarding his team’s less-than-stellar performance, instead lauding the players for their determination in what he deemed an exhilarating match.
“We accomplished our goal today, which was to reach the final and there’s no time for reflection,” Ancelotti remarked during the press conference.
“It was an entertaining match with its share of errors, but plenty of positives as well. It was enjoyable and we’ve made it to the final.
“I never felt we were out of contention because anything is possible at the Bernabeu. When we’re required to come from behind, we always persist. We never back down, particularly at home with our supporters rallying behind us.“
Ancelotti defended David Alaba, who inadvertently redirected two shots into his own net, attributing the mishap to “bad luck.” However, he did emphasise the need for improved focus within the defence moving forward.
“Conceding four goals in a match is not ideal,” Ancelotti stated.
“At the moment, we are a team with significant attacking prowess, but we lack balance.
“Nonetheless, we can’t overlook our attacking performance; scoring four goals against any side is a notable achievement. I believe we are performing quite well.“
Real Madrid, who have lifted the Spanish Cup only once in the past decade, will face either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in an exciting final scheduled in Seville next month.
Atletico staged a magnificent comeback to draw 4-4 with Barcelona ahead of Wednesday’s second-leg encounter in Madrid.
