The Blues faced a significant setback with Beauden Barrett expected to be sidelined for a considerable part of the season due to a fractured right hand.
The star All Blacks No. 10 sustained the injury during the Blues’ unexpected 21-20 loss to the Brumbies at Eden Park on Friday evening.

This injury will consequently rule him out for several weeks of Super Rugby Pacific, as it occurred in round four, with the season extending through to the play-offs in June.
Barrett played the initial 40 minutes in Auckland, showcasing his skills with a brilliant individual try, slicing through the Brumbies’ defence with remarkable speed.
However, he was substituted at half-time for Harry Plummer, and despite leading 20-10, the Blues failed to add any points in the second half.

Last year, while Barrett was absent playing in Japan, the Blues claimed the Super Rugby Pacific title. However, his return was a much-needed boost for Vern Cotter’s side.
The Blues have had a rocky start to the 2025 season, with three losses in their first four fixtures. The Brumbies’ victory marked their first win at Eden Park since 2013.

There is potential for Barrett to make a return before the season concludes, although it is still uncertain when or if that will be the case.
“The injury necessitates continuous evaluations to determine the specifics of treatment and the recovery period,” the Blues stated in an announcement.
Plummer is available to fill in at five-eighth for the Blues.

Last season, he excelled during their run to clinch the franchise’s first major title since 2003.
Cotter also confirmed that Stephen Perofeta, who can alternate between No. 10 and fullback, should be fit for next weekend’s match against the Chiefs in Hamilton.
The All Black Perofeta has missed the initial matches due to a calf injury.
