And just like that, Carl Veart’s chapter with Adelaide United has come to a close. The Isuzu UTE A-League Elimination Final defeat to Western United on Friday night marked the end of his five-year coaching era.
As the longest-serving coach in the club’s history, Veart had already been informed that his contract would not be extended, and his tenure concluded with a 3-2 defeat beneath the lights of Ironbark Fields.
Adelaide fell victim to Noah Botic’s record-setting hat-trick in Tarneit.
For Veart, a true Adelaide legend thanks to his playing and coaching exploits at Coopers Stadium, this loss signifies the end of an era in South Australia.
HAT-TRICK HERO: A memorable treble marks a 3-year path to becoming a Socceroo-in-waiting, but one question lingers
“It won’t fully hit me until I return home and perhaps after a week of reflection,” the 54-year-old shared with reporters after the match.
“It’s been a rewarding five years. I’m proud of what I’ve contributed to the club and the direction we’ve set. I hope it continues.”
During Veart’s stint, he led the Reds to three Semi-Final appearances while developing young talents from South Australia, including Nestory Irankunda, Mohamed Toure, Giuseppe Bovalina, Panagiotis Kikianis, Ethan Alagich, Luka Jovanovic, Harry Crawford, and Ryan White.
NEXT STOP, SEMI-FINALS: A record-breaking hat-trick steals the spotlight on Western United’s memorable night
“Reflecting on my upbringing in South Australia, I was fortunate to have an opportunity at Adelaide City. Working in youth football for a long time, I was often frustrated that young players weren’t being given chances at Adelaide United,” Veart remarked.
“To return to the club and help open that pathway for young players has been rewarding. We’ve seen the positive outcomes from that.”
“We’re not the only club making such strides. Young players can astound you if they’re given a chance and the belief that they have what it takes. That’s what I’ve aimed to instil in our young lads.”
So, what does the future hold for Veart?
“There aren’t many coaching opportunities available. I’ll consider anything. I’m willing to go wherever a good opportunity presents itself,” he stated.
